Comparison
MulchDeck vs LandWorkPro
Last updated July 2026
The short answer
Both are built for forestry mulching and land clearing, and they make different bets. MulchDeck is $149 a month flat with no cut of your revenue, and it is stronger on estimating inputs: parcel boundaries load themselves, and machine costs are built per machine rather than per crew day. LandWorkPro prices the job from your own numbers, warns you before you send a bid below cost, and collects the deposit on the spot for a fee on what you route through it. Which one costs less is arithmetic, and it depends on how much money you actually run through the app.

The fee, answered with arithmetic
Their number is right. MulchDeck’s comparison page says a Pro crew putting $150,000 through the app pays about $1,350 in platform fees on top of the $1,188 subscription, against $1,788 for MulchDeck. That is correct. At that routed volume they cost $750 a year less, and you should not take our word over a calculator you can run yourself.
What it assumes is where it turns. That example routes $150,000 through the app. The fee only touches money you collect in the app, which MulchDeck’s own page says plainly, so cash and check work outside it costs nothing on either product. The number that decides your bill is not your revenue, it is how much of it you run through the software, and you choose that. An operator who takes deposits in the app and the balance by check routes a fraction of his year.
So there is a crossover, and here it is. On Pro, billed monthly, the two cost the same at about $67,000 a year routed through the app. Below that, LandWorkPro costs less. Above it, MulchDeck does. On our annual billing the crossover moves to about $89,000, and on Starter it is about $96,000. MulchDeck has no annual plan, which they present as a feature rather than a gap, and that is a fair way to put it.
| A year of software | LandWorkPro | MulchDeck |
|---|---|---|
| Subscription, billed monthly | $29 / $99 / $249 a month | $149 a month, one plan |
| Annual billing | Yes, two months free (Pro $990 a year) | No annual plan |
| Fee on payments collected in the app | 1.5% / 0.9% / 0.5% by tier | None, you are paid directly |
| Cheaper below ~$67,000 routed a year (Pro) | Yes | No |
| Cheaper above that | No | Yes, and their page says so first |
| Users included | Yes, unlimited on every tier | Yes, unlimited |
| Entry price | $29 a month | $149 a month |
What MulchDeck does better
The parcel loads itself. Both products put the job on satellite and both license parcel data. In MulchDeck you type the address and the county boundary draws itself, then you trim to the work area. In LandWorkPro you draw the work area inside it. If you bid whole parcels, that is a step saved on every quote, and it is a genuine difference rather than a preference.
Machine costs are built from the iron up. LandWorkPro tracks cost mostly as a cost per crew day. MulchDeck builds it per machine from purchase price, interest, useful life, insurance, fuel burn and operator wage, with hour meters and maintenance due by hours. That gives a cost per hour you can defend machine by machine. If your fleet is mixed and one machine is much more expensive to run than another, a blended day rate hides that and theirs does not.
Closed-job margin runs on real hours. Both compare the bid to the actual. Theirs feeds the actual from logged hours, fuel and teeth through that machine’s own hourly cost, so the margin reflects the iron that did the work rather than an average crew day.
What LandWorkPro does that MulchDeck does not
It stops a bid that loses money. Before you send, LandWorkPro checks the price against your break-even and warns you if the job is underwater. MulchDeck does not do this at bid time and their own comparison page says so, calling it a genuinely useful feature. It is the one thing on this page that changes what you charge rather than what you know afterwards.
The deposit gets collected while you are standing there. Card deposits, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and bank transfer, with an eligibility check so a payment option that cannot work never reaches your customer. The quote also carries a financing link if you add one, which opens your lender’s own application. This is what the platform fee pays for, and it is the honest trade on this page: a percentage on money you route, against collecting that money at the kitchen table instead of chasing it.
It works offline, and the photos carry their coordinates. Clock-ins, receipts and bids queue on the device and sync when the signal comes back, which matters because the jobs are in places the signal does not reach. Job photos take their GPS from the image EXIF and fall back to the device, and a before-and-after composite is one tap with an optional coordinate watermark.
You are told when a quote is being read. When a customer sits on a quote for a minute or more, that is a hot lead and you hear about it. Change requests come back through the quote rather than by voicemail, and on Pro and Fleet the quote carries your logo and your brand colour.
A business line, follow-ups, receipts and six trades. A dedicated number with in-app texting and automatic follow-up nudges. Receipt scanning that costs to the job. And modes for forestry mulching, land clearing, excavation, tree service, brush hogging and demolition, where MulchDeck covers mulching and clearing.
Which one to pick
Choose MulchDeck
You bid whole parcels and want the boundary to load itself. You run a mixed fleet and want a defensible cost per hour per machine rather than a crew day rate. You already collect by check and cash, so a percentage on in-app payments buys you nothing. Or you route a lot of money and the flat price simply wins on the arithmetic above.
Choose LandWorkPro
You want to be told before you send a bid that loses money. You want the deposit collected on the spot, and the bid, the photos and the follow-ups in one place. You work more than mulching and clearing. Or you are starting at $29 a month and routing little enough that the fee costs less than the difference in subscription.
FAQ
MulchDeck is one plan at $149 a month flat, every feature, unlimited users, with a 14-day free trial and no credit card required. There is no annual plan and no platform fee on your revenue. Read on mulchdeck.com/pricing on September 5, 2026.
Above about $67,000 a year routed through the app, yes, and their own comparison page is right about it. LandWorkPro Pro is $99 a month plus 0.9% on payments you collect in the app, so a Pro crew running $150,000 of card payments through it pays about $2,538 a year against MulchDeck's $1,788. Below that crossover LandWorkPro costs less, and the fee only touches money you actually route through the app. Cash and check jobs outside it are free on both.
No. MulchDeck never touches the money, so it takes 0%. Worth knowing what that does and does not mean: if your customer pays by card, you still pay a card processor around 2.9% plus 30 cents wherever you process it. The difference between the two products on a card payment is our platform fee, which is 1.5% on Starter, 0.9% on Pro and 0.5% on Fleet, not the whole processing cost.
Three things, and they are real. County parcel boundaries load onto the map from the address, so you start at the property line instead of drawing the work area. Machine costs are built bottom-up per machine from purchase price, interest, life, insurance, fuel burn and operator wage, giving a defensible cost per hour rather than a blended crew day. And closed-job profitability runs on logged machine hours through that machine's real hourly cost. Read on mulchdeck.com/vs/landworkpro on September 5, 2026.
It warns you before you send a bid priced below your break-even, which MulchDeck's own comparison page credits by name. It collects card deposits, wallet payments and bank transfers in the app, and carries a financing link on the quote if you add one. It gives you a dedicated business line with texting and automatic follow-ups. It scans receipts and costs them to jobs. It covers six land trades against MulchDeck's mulching and clearing. And it starts at $29 a month against their $149 floor.
Yes, and they are the same length. MulchDeck runs 14 days with no credit card, and LandWorkPro runs 14 days on Pro. Neither has an advantage there.
