What is a crew day rate?
Your crew day rate is what one full day of work costs you to run: machine, operator, fuel, teeth or wear, and mobilization. It is the number every acre-based bid should start from. Charge below it and you lose money no matter how the job goes.
How do I know if I am underbidding?
Work out the crew days a job takes, multiply by what a crew day costs you, and that is your break even. If your bid comes in under that number, you are underbidding. This calculator does that math for you from your acreage and site conditions.
How many acres can I clear in a crew day?
It depends on the trade and the site. Forestry mulching runs about 2.5 acres per day in typical conditions, land clearing closer to 0.6. Heavier vegetation, steeper terrain, and tighter access all slow you down, which is why the calculator adjusts for density, terrain, and access.
