What does forestry mulching cost in Texas?
There is no single price for forestry mulching in Texas, because the number depends on the acreage, how thick the growth is, how far a machine has to travel, and what happens to the material once it is down.
The only figure worth acting on is a written quote from an operator who has looked at your property, priced from that operator's own equipment and labour rates rather than a national average.
Why we do not publish a price per acre
We build the tools Texas crews use to price and run this work, so we see how these quotes are built. We are not going to hand you an average, because the figures that get published as "cost per acre" flatten exactly the things that decide your price.
An acre of open pasture with light brush and an acre of mixed hardwood with stumps are the same unit of land and a completely different job. A number that covers both is not useful to you, and it is not honest.
What actually moves the price
- Acreage and how it is shaped
- An acre is 43,560 square feet. One open acre is faster than the same acreage split into narrow strips around buildings, fences and septic fields.
- Density and stem size
- Light brush and saplings clear far faster than mature hardwood. The size of the largest material on the site usually decides which machine is needed, and the machine decides the day rate.
- What happens to the material
- Mulching leaves the material on site as ground cover, which is why it often costs less than clearing.
- Access and travel
- Equipment has to reach the work. A site off a paved road near the operator costs less to mobilise than one an hour out down a soft two track.
- Terrain and obstacles
- Slope, wet ground, rock, and anything the crew has to work around slows the machine down. Buried utilities have to be located before work starts.
What to ask before you book
- Ask for the price in writing, with the acreage the operator measured and what is included at that number.
- Ask what happens to the material, and whether hauling or disposal is inside the price or on top of it.
- Ask whether the quote covers stumps. Cutting to grade and grinding stumps are different jobs and are often priced separately.
- Ask for proof of insurance, and ask who calls in the utility locate.
- Ask what happens if the site is worse than it looked. A good operator will tell you how a change gets priced before the machine is on the trailer.
